I just got home from the movie theater, where I watched Laika’s new movie; ParaNorman. I won’t tell you about the amazing artwork, the wonderful storyline with awesome moral in it, or how many times it made me laugh, though. Today, I’ll bring up the scene where Neil’s brother get asked out by Norman’s sister and he tell her he got a boyfriend. I can use three words to describe my feeling for that scene; “I am proud”. I am proud of Laika. I’m proud of whoever wrote the script. I am proud of the directors. I am, for once in my life, proud of media. I’ve been writing emails to the Swedish television about this, about LGBT-questions, trying to explain how they can’t hid it from children. How they got to explain all kind of lifestyles to children, because what you don’t tell, won’t be an opition in their world and they will find it wrong later on in life when they find out about it. The answers I’ve gotten, have been answers where they agree but it doesn’t make any difference; it doesn’t change. I don’t care if they agree or not if they don’t act. If they don’t do anything to make the world better. Media has power. Anyways; just a small thing like this, can change so much. I’ve read reviews where this film got one point from the reviewer, because they got small chilren and after this movie they got to answer a lot of questions. They ask “how can they make gay jokes in movies made for kids” and I ask them back; “how come you let your kids watch straight stuff if love is so, so dangerous?”. They say “I got to explain how that boy could have a boyfriend to my four years old daughter” and I say “how come you haven’t told her before?”. So that’s what I wanted to say. I’m proud of everyone that has been a part of this movie for changing the world, just a little. And I’m sorry for all my misspellings and grammar mistakes.
